Coast Gravity Park

Coast Gravity Park is a small bike park on the Sunshine Coast designed by the Coastal Crew. We took a day trip from Whistler to check it out and had a great time! After riding steep, tech gnar in Squamish, Whistler and Pemberton, it was nice to get on some smooth jump trails that we could casually lap all day. The park had enough progression to let us work our way up to some of the bigger jumps as we figured out the speed through the day. The vibes were excellent too and we got to hang out with a fun crew of stoked riders from all over BC.
Welcome to Coast Gravity Park!
We left Whistler early to catch the Langdale Ferry from Horseshoe Bay so we would be at Coast Gravity Park in time for opening. As it usually goes with ferries, we just missed our sailing after picking the slowest ticket lane possible. We briefly considered just bailing and heading up to Squamish to ride for the day but our car was trapped in the ferry line so that wasn't even an option. We cut our losses, grabbed some breakfast and enjoyed the beautiful morning from the beach while we waited for the next boat.

Finally on our way!
By the time we arrived on the Sunshine Coast, it was 11am (park opens at 10am). Luckily it wasn't busy in the Bike Park so we were able to maximize our laps for the rest of the day by not taking any breaks between laps. The park is accessed by a shuttle van and trailer that drops you at the top of most of the trails. There was a climb trail up to Dynamite Panther but we were in the mood for descending and skipped that one. I think we rode all the other trails at least once just to check them out, but spent most of our time on the black jump trails.

The laps were fast and we beat the shuttle down to the bottom each time. This gave us a chance to chat with the other riders and hang out in the shade at the bottom. Riding on a weekday was awesome. There were no lines! We never waited more than about 5 mins for the next shuttle and got to know pretty much everyone else riding that day. By the time we loaded for the last lap at 4pm we felt we had got our money's worth of fast, fun jump lines despite the late start.

So smooth
Feeling sunburnt, dusty and tired we made our way back to Sechelt for some refreshments before catching the afternoon ferry home. You can't go wrong with cold beers, fresh crab and oysters at Smitty's after a great day of riding on the Sunshine Coast.
