Up the Tunnel Creek Road |
Trespass Ridge is a great day trip out near Fernie! Starting at the Tunnel Creek parking area west of Fernie, we followed the road up as if we were approaching the hut. After 4km, the skin track to the hut branches off right up a drainage but if you continue to follow the road, it wraps around under Trespass Ridge. Follow the flat logging road until it starts to climb again. Take the right spur and follow it to the cut block. From here you will have a view of the ridge.
Into the cut block |
After climbing the cut block and gaining the ridge, we continued up through the trees and into the alpine.
Breaking trail on the ridge |
Looking good up there! |
Inspecting the snow ghosts |
From the top of the ridge, we skied the mellow trees back the way we had come, before dropping off the north aspect of the ridge. We had a short steep pitch of excellent tree skiing before it flattened out at the bottom of the valley. We contoured the creek-bed and met up with the Tunnel Creek Hut skin track on the logging road. If we had more energy, it would have been great spot to skin back up for another lap after putting in all the effort to get up there as it would only be about 350m back up to the ridge.
Nice turns |
Awesome tree skiing |
